New York star Luke Loughlin has returned home and has been included in the Westmeath senior football squad for 2017.

Loughlin was part of the Westmeath minor side that reached the Leinster final in 2013, before heading to the states.

The Downs clubman scored three points and generally tormented the Roscommon defence as New York almost caused a massive shock in the Connacht SFC clash, only losing by 1-15 to 0-17.

However, Loughlin has returned home and was introduced as a second half substitute in last week’s challenge defeat to neighbours Meath.

Westmeath manager Tom Cribbin revealed to the Westmeath Independent that he has heard a lot about Loughlin.

Cribbin said: “We gave some lads a chance and there are more players to come in. We had Luke Loughlin there and I heard a lot about him but had never seen him play.”
