Bennis launches autobiography

Former Limerick hurler and manager Richie Bennis has launched his autobiography called ‘A Game That Smiles’.

Following a glittering career as a player and in management, Bennis has many a tale to tell, and has decided to share these with the general public.

An integral part of the Limerick side that won the 1973 All-Ireland title when defeating Kilkenny in the final, he also won two Munster SHC titles, a Natoinal Hurling League title and an All-Star. He also enjoyed much success with his club Patrickwell while whom he won ten Limerick SHC titles, including the clubs first title in 1965. Bennis also managed the Shannonsiders when they reached the 2007 All-Ireland SHC final, where the Cats came out on top on that occasion.

This is so much more that a GAA book though as his personal heartache is revealed and Bennis told the Limerick Post that he felt it was important to tell about all aspects of his life.

“Strength is only a word and when these things hit, you don’t be long softening. It’s a great leveller and bring you back to realisation and it doesn’t pass many doorsteps.

“Every house meets its problems. I met them many times but I’m still here to talk about it. I hope people realise the enjoyment I got out of hurling and living with thirteen in the family, when we had nothing but had everything. We had a great upbringing.”
